How to Make a Lavender Sachet
Materials
- Two 5"x 7" pieces of fabric
- 4 oz. of dried lavender
- Decorative button
- Sewing machine or needle and matching color thread
Directions
Place one fabric square on top of the other, with right sides of the fabric facing each other. You will sew the sachet inside out.
Allowing .5" for seam, pin the fabric together on three sides. Leave the fourth side open.
Using a sewing machine or needle and thread, sew along three sides of the pin markings using close, tight stitches.
With a hot iron, press the seams open on three sides. Turn inside out (actually right side out), and press corners all the way through using the tip of a pencil. Press the sachet with a hot iron.
Fill sachet with dried lavender.
For the fold-over "purse" effect, push lavender down into sachet, until you have 2.5" of empty fabric at the top of the unsewn side. Folding the two pieces toward each other .5" to allow for a seam, pin together and sew fourth side with needle and thread using close, tight stitches.
Next, fold the two corners of the fourth side toward each other to make a center point, like wrapping a present. Tack the folded pieces to the body of the sachet, then fold triangle piece down over the body of the sachet. Tack triangle piece to body of sachet (see photo).
Sew decorative button to the apex of the triangle, if desired.
